LUNA Fiber review

Last week, LUNA Bar reveled their newest product, the LUNA Fiber bar. Not only did they reveal this new bar, but they also offered a sneak peak giveaway on Twitter, and I was one of 10 lucky people chosen.
I only felt it right to offer my review.
Honest thoughts: Believe ‘em

I have been a Luna Bar lover for a while now. I’m not often one to supplement my diet with protein bars or packaged goods, but I deal with low blood sugar and have gotten into the habit of carrying food in my purse should the need arise.
For fear of smooshing bananas all over my bag, or hurting my shoulder  from carrying  a jar of peanut butter around, the easiest choice has been some sort of bar.
But when it comes to something of the bar sort, the choices are numerous: granola, protein, weight loss, etc.
I’ve pretty much tried everything, and LUNA fit the the bill for me.
Most importantly, they taste good. And by taste good I mean, they lack the chalky, protein flavor. If I didn’t need to eat them for snacks sometimes, I would choose to eat them.
They affordable for my budget, and they are organic. Which to me means they seem more homemade in my book than processed.
And Luna isn’t  your typical nutrition bar.
They are geared specifically for women, including the Core 4: Calcium, Vitamin D, Iron, Folic Acid.
And that’s what I love about LUNA. They aren’t just some other nutrition company. They take into account the vitamins and minerals women’s bodies need.
I also love what they stand for:
“The way we eat makes a difference in how we feel. Food feeds our souls, lifts our spirits, nourishes and sustains us. So, why does finding the right thing to eat sometimes seem so complicated? With organic ingredients, vitamins to meet the special needs of our bodies, and flavors we love, LUNA makes finding nourishment a bit simpler."
LUNA also offers variety, which is sometimes hard to find in the bar section.
  • They have 16 different flavors of nutrition bars (I’ve tried all but their two newest flavors)
  • They offer mini nutrition bars which are more snack size.
  • They have 5 different flavors of their gluten-free protein bars (Chocolate chip cookie dough is heaven and perfect for after race recovery)
And as of last week, they now have three different flavors of fiber bars: Vanilla Blueberry, Peanut Butter Strawberry, and Chocolate Raspberry.

Can I firstly just say how excited I am about this bar? My family has a history or G.I. issues and not eating enough fiber, so for awhile I was trying the Fiber One bars but that was just too much fiber at once. And pretty much everything else fiber related on the shelves is either too processed for me or too twig tasting.
However, being the Luna lover that I am, I knew these had promise. They contain 7 grams of fiber, or 28% of our daily fiber intake, which after consuming, seemed to be the perfect amount for my body to handle.
I opted for the Vanilla Blueberry seeing as how those are two of my favorite flavors. The bars are marketed as soft-baked fruit-filled bars, and let me tell you, they do not disappoint.
If I had to compare it (which it’s Luna and you don’t really do that but…) it has similar looks and consistency to a Nutrigrain bar. But honestly, it tastes way better. I would describe it as bakery-like.
Really. There is no “process-y” taste if that exists. Which, to a baker like me, it does.

The top of the bar has a light dusting of sugar which was a pleasant taste surprise.
And the bottom has a dusting of grains… but being organic and full of grains, it wasn’t “grainy.” ( I know. I’m so full of good adjectives today.) Nothing stuck in my teeth and I didn’t feel like I was eating seeds.DSC04393
The dough was extremely soft, and I had let it sit on my table a couple of days as I just took in the newness of it.
The blueberry filling wasn’t just goop in the middle. It was almost jam-like. And the vanilla was subtle, but a nice compliment to the blueberry.
Again. It was like it came out of my kitchen.
I could definitely see this as a breakfast bar for me (though I do like the Blueberry Bliss Nutrition bar for that very reason…)
Or, even just a nice lunch dessert/afternoon snack. I have a sweet tooth so I love something sweet after just about every meal.
And with the baked goods feel the fiber bar has, it would suffice.
Just without the guilt.

This is definitely a believe ‘em  kind of product, and I cannot wait until they hit the shelves this month so I can try the other two flavors. They get a 10.*
OH. Luna totally surprised me too. When I opened the box, I found this:

1. Was in need of new chapstick
2. Favorite flavor of Nutrition Bar, hands down.
3. If this is a new product in the making, I will take a million, please. (Don’t tell my husband I’m wasting our money on lip gloss.)
4. Short review: Great flavor. Not overly abundant. Kept my lips feeling good and soft all day. Once Music Man gets home, I’ll ask him to rate the kissable factor.
LUNA. You rock.

Passing the Baton:
Are you a LUNA lover too? If so, what’s your favorite flavor (of each kind of bar!) And what’s your regimen with them? Breakfast? Before Workout? Recovery? Afternoon snack?
* Disclaimer. I was not paid to write this review. I received the LUNA Fiber bar, fair and square, as part of a Twitter giveway. All of the thoughts and opinions are mine and mine alone based on personal tasting of the product. 100% honesty. LUNA was not promised a positive review, they just happened to get it.
