A weekend in pictures

I haven’t mentioned Herby in awhile….That’s my garden. I named him in the hopes that it would help me nurture him better.

Despite the little drought we’ve got going on here in the Midwest, he is growing like crazy!

Anyone in need of cilantro? Because I’ve got plenty.

My favorite part is this little guy.

Indeed, that is a pepper.

And no, this one isn’t sick. It’s a purple pepper plant (say that 5 times fast). They are supposed to be slightly sweeter than a green bell pepper which we consume to no end around here.

No pictures, but I think my thumb is indeed starting to turn green.

What else, what else this weekend…. Saturday was a good workout day as I put in 6 miles that morning, then headed out to coach the third session of C25K.
I used to think that I’d never sleep in again what with all this morning running, but on beautiful summer mornings like Saturday, I don’t mind it.

Oh yeah… and then there’s the whole fact that MUSIC MAN CAME HOME!
Finally.

He was supposed to get in Saturday evening, but he surprised me Friday night. So we had a nice little pizza date.
Gotta keep with tradition and all.
Though, he he did wake up at 3:30 the next morning to head to the guard unit to finish up some paperwork, but he was home before noon.

I spent most of my weekend craving these, so grocery day came at a good timing.

I doubt lemonade is all that good for me what with the sugar content and all, but after I down a gallon, I just tell myself I’m hydrating.

Sunday started a little rainy and gloomy, but the sun came out for a beautiful afternoon. And it’s a good thing because us old fashioned kids headed out to the community band concert in the park.

We even rode our bikes.

You will notice that my face pretty much stays the same in all of these pictures….if only someone would smile the first time…

But, at least we have a fun photo album full of memories.

I’d share more pictures, but besides some homework, lots of reading, a little Downton Abbey and X-Men, we pretty much just relaxed.
You know, the boring lame stuff I usually do.

Needless to say… it’s good to have him home.

Passing the Baton: How was your weekend? Any exciting things happen? How did you spend it?

Ps….Kindly enter my GIVEAWAY as I extended it and you still have a little over 24 hours to win some Gnu Fiber bars!!!!

My thumb is green… or would like to be

Number 5 on my The 25th Year list is to nurture an herb garden.

Well, you all know that a couple of weeks ago two of my really good friends surprised me with some gardening gloves, Rosemary, and Chocolate Mint. Those lovely ladies must read my blog or something.

That evening was the beginning of something beautiful.
Here, let me show you.

I spent last Sunday outside “gardening.” We have crazy landscapers around these parts and I wasn’t about to let them mow over my herbs, and kill them before I get a chance, so I’m attempting to pot grow them (and no, that has nothing to do with illegal substances). Plus, if my green thumb surfaces and I don’t end up killing these babies by the end of summer, I’m hoping to bring them inside to continue the gardening experience.

I had a lot of fun planting and nurturing these into their new home. In fact, I found it relaxing, and I now understand why my mom enjoys it so much.
Everything I planted is an herb that I use a lot in my cooking.
The yellow pot has Italian oregano, chives (transplanted from my mom’s garden) and parsley.
The turquoise pot has rosemary, another tiny chive plant, and the chocolate mint (which I cannot wait to try in some coffee or tea.)
And the green pot has cilantro, lemon basil, and lavender.
No more dried up, plastic bottle herbs for this gal!

I’m most excited about the little plant in between the pots though. It’s a purple pepper plant, which is supposed to produce purple bell peppers that are on the sweeter side. They take about 70 days to yield a crop, and I am most certainly counting down.

Who knew this city girl with the farmer brother would enjoy playing in the dirt?

Passing the Baton: Do any of you garden? What’s your choice? Flowers, veggies, or herbs? If so… any tips for this gal with the typically non-green thumb?

Ps....something big

I know. Lots of posts today. It's been an eventful Monday, what can I say.
I haven't even told you about my herb garden yet, or the Luna Caramel Nut Brownie.

But tomorrow. Tomorrow is going to be even bigger.
And it involves this:

Wait til tomorrow's (or Wednesdays depending on how late a night it is) post.
And be jealous.

Cultivating

Thanks to some wonderful gals, it's time for me to start my herb garden!

I like the quiet, but sometimes being a makeshift army wife gets too quiet. And so, it has been a blessing the last couple of weeks to get to spend some time with my gal friends and to cultivate our friendships. We all lead such busy lives, sometimes book club once a month is the only time we see each other.
And, I tend to be a hermit.
But, Kindred Spirit and Sis have helped me to start reaching out for quality girl time.

Tonight some of the ladies came over for dinner, (the previous mentioned two, and Mama, as I'm calling her, because her little one is due to arrive anytime!) and I enjoyed being able to introduce them to the wonderful world of Greek cuisine.
Ladies, you are a tremendous blessing in my life!

Thank you so much for your beautiful, compassionate hearts. You have no idea how much your friendships mean to me.

My hope is to cultivate my herb garden as we cultivate our friendships, so I may continually lay my heart out on my table for you.
